The exact founding date of the Kelowna Medical Society is unknown, but its roots trace back to 1904, when Dr. Knox arrived in Kelowna aboard the S.S. Aberdeen paddle wheeler. His arrival brought the city’s total number of physicians to two—serving a community of just 275 people.
Dr. Benjamin Boyce, who had settled in Kelowna a decade earlier in 1894, finally had a full-time colleague.
In those early days, local medical societies were formed so physicians could gather to share case histories, seek advice from peers, and coordinate responses to local outbreaks.
Today, Kelowna’s medical community includes more than 250 physicians across a wide range of disciplines. The Kelowna Medical Society continues that original mission—serving as a central hub for connection, professional development, and the celebration of local medical achievements.
